It's an energetic and committed crew that pull together every day and every week to get things
done on the farm.
Pete is in charge of the Grand Master Plan; planting, cultivation & field rotation schedules;
procurement; product testing; systems analysis; organization; human resources and at least a
dozen other managerial tasks all the while still putting in a large number of hours working the
fields. He provides the inspiration needed to keep us all engaged.
Meg Gardner came to Pete's in 2006. Over time she has come to manage the harvest among
many other roles. She constructs the veggie portion of the Good Eats shares each week. She
coordinates the harvest crew each day while putting in plenty of field time herself weeding,
picking, bunching, hauling. She is intimately aware of the status of all crops in the field at all
times. She also oversees the Farm Stand sales, manages the Farmers Market in Montpelier,
she shares greenhouse management with Pete, specializes in growing the early Spring shoots
and sprouts, and together with Pete shares in the planning for each season.
Nick is our kitchen manager. He has worked for Pete's for 6 years broken up into two
segments separated by a brief sojourn in Colorado. He has worn many a hat at Pete's over
the years, from field worker and washhouse crew member, to wholesale sales manager and
delivery person and now he makes the pickles. And pesto, and lacto ferments and anything
else he and Pete dream up. Nick and his wife and kids live off the grid in Craftsbury. He is
living the localvore challenge daily.
Tim Fishburne has been a dedicated, valuable member of the team since 2003. He manages
wholesale sales to restaurants near and far, he is our tireless CSA and wholesale delivery
driver, and he still finds time to put in time in the washhouse with the rest of the crew, prepping
vegetables for delivery. Tim lives across the street from Pete's and when not furthering the
farm's mission he busies himself with restoring and converting automobiles to biodiesel or
restoring his farmhouse in a effort to make it the greenest place in town. Tim is nearly always
accompanied by his faithful dog Lucy.
Deborah Rosewolf is our washhouse manager, which is a formidable job at Pete's. Every day
she strategizes the cleaning, prepping, bunching and storage of all the produce coming in from
the fields. She keeps track of each crop in the cooler and its welfare. In winter she keeps tabs
on all the root crops as well, portioning out vegetables each week for Good Eats such that we
make it through a winter with the crops we have stored away. Deborah also works shoulder to
shoulder with everyone on the farm and her positive attitude and high energy are infectious.
She is also The Egg Lady! Her flock of hens provide eggs for Good Eats. Deb lives in Albany,
about 6 miles from the farm.
Steve Perkins is the equipment manager at the farm. That means he fixes things. Everything.
Which means everyday is a grand adventure for Steve given the number of tractors,
implements, and water and electrical and heating systems there are on the farm. He also
builds things, excavates, plans with Pete and then executes new construction often single
handedly. He is an essential part of the team and is good humored through it all. Even when
hauling rotten silage and the truck breaks down (a very stinky episode). Or chasing the
yearling cows around for 3 hours. Steve and his wife and 3 kids live just a couple houses down
the street.
Matthew Vetman spent a great deal of his time in the tractor seat this summer - planting,
cultivating, mowing, moving, harvesting, hauling, spreading, or changing implements and
fueling up and servicing the machinery he needed to use. He was at it all day every day all
season, and never seemed to tire of the job. Matt and his wife Amanda have recently had their
first child. They live North of the farm in Troy.
Amy Skelton is the newest member of the Pete's team, joining the rest of the gang in May
2009. Amy manages the weekly CSA process and customer communications for Good Eats,
orders localvore products and meats for the shares, handles marketing for the farm, and keeps
the books. She is dedicated to promoting local agriculture and sustainable farming practices.
Amy lives with her husband and three kids in Waterbury, commuting to the farm a couple days
a week.
