Washhouse Manager (Updated Sep 14)

 

We are looking for a solid team leader for this key position on our farm. Our Washhouse Manager oversees vegetable processes including washing, culling, packing, maintaining storage conditions for and monitoring inventory of all vegetables grown on the farm in order to provide high quality produce to wholesale, retail and CSA customers. The Washhouse Manager works alongside our bilingual washhouse team and also works directly with all other farm management toward the goal of creating a harmonious, organized, productive workplace.  This is full time, year round position working primarily four full weekdays each week.

Part Time Veggie Packing (Updated Sep 14)

Pete's Greens has a part time time position packing organic vegetables starting immediately. Come join our team! This is a year round position. Work involves sorting and packing for wholesale and CSA customers. The perfect candidate is dependable, hard-working, detail oriented, good humored, appreciates high quality vegetables, is a good communicator, has good basic math skills and is fit and capable of frequently lifting crates of vegetables weighing up to 50 lbs.

Value Added Food Processing (Updated Sep 8)

Seeking an energetic individual with commercial kitchen experience to prep and process our surplus veggies into frozen vegetables and value items including tomato sauce, salsas, pestos, pickles and more.  

This position requires an individual who is organized & focused; is able to work efficiently; can work well both independently and in a team environment; and can instruct and supervise additional staff when needed. Knowledge of food, food safety, food preservation techniques is critical. Experience with larger scale kitchen equipment a plus. Excellent record keeping skills are essential.

This is a physically demanding job requiring long hours standing, hours using a knife or engaged in other prep work, and lots of lifting heavy bins of vegetables and processed items.

This is a 25-40 hour a week position.  Other hours are available to create a FT position.

Forklift Operator/Veggie Handler (Updated Sep 14)

Our forklift operator works on schedule with our washhouse crew pulling bins of veggies from storage to be prepped for sale.  The job is part equipment operator, part veggie washing and packing, with a good amount of inventory tracking, math, email communication and some computer work as part of the job.  The individual in this position also manages the organization of our working spaces, keeps the flow of bins moving to wherever they need to go, drives a tractor to haul away the daily compost, and generally keeps our storage areas and washhouse (the heart of our farm) organized and tidy.  A large part of day is spent packing veggies alongside our crew, stepping away to operate equipment as need arises throughout the day.

Harvest Lead (Updated Sep 14 )

Looking for an energetic, knowledgeable individual to lead our multilingual harvest team.  We fully expect that this position will take a full year to learn.  We are looking for someone for whom this job is the dream job, someone prepared to grow into it.

Our harvest leader plays an important role on our farm, keeping tabs on how each planting is coming along and communicating to sales and CSA team what can be sold, harvested and delivered each week.  It also a very physical job, the Harvest Leader works directly with the harvest crew, ensuring that crops will be harvested correctly, to right size and quantity to fulfill sales needs.  Our harvest crew is a mix of English and Spanish speakers, most of whom have been harvesting on our farm for 4 years or more.  Though the core job relates to crop information and harvest tasks, this position offers much opportunity for growth for someone keen to learn more about organic agriculture and who is a real team player.  This is a year round position.

  • Knowledge of organic production
  • Ability to prioritize daily tasks to ensure freshest harvests and efficient flow of work

  • Organized, able to maintain accurate detailed records
  • Team player able to share data and information with various teams and coordinate staff needs with other managers on farm
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written (much farm communication is via smartphone/email) Basic computer skills include the ability to efficiently use Email, Internet, Word and Excel

Greenhouse Grower (Updated Sep 14)

We're seeking a motivated, talented individual to manage our 50,000 square ft of heated and 2.5 acres of unheated greenhouses and tunnels. We grow a huge array of crops indoors from arugula to zucchini. We're currently upgrading our greenhouse facilities by installing soil heat and automated venting and we need a grower who can make the place hum!  Primary tasks include co-creating and executing a greenhouse management plan and directing a team to optimize planting, transplanting, harvesting, packing, system monitoring, pest management, and general maintenance.  Secondary tasks may include experimental research.  This is a full time, year round salaried position.
